For many years now WayneDesign has been promoting
environmentally sound home design, green building and environmental best
practices. My wife has an impressive background in publishing & graphic
design and brings 20 years of experience to the table. I current ly teach as
an associate instructor for
Tennessee Technology Center @ Hohenwald, TN. The class I teach is
Green Jobs Technology that covers the basic knowledge and technical skills
necessary for success in today’s growing “green” environment for employment
in up and coming green fields and industries. The objective of the
1296-hour course is to teach and provide a diverse range of green studies to
expose students to green technologies in order that the successful student
operate in a modern green environment and or business. The course is also
designed for individuals who are seeking to upgrade or update existing green
technology skills or gain certification.
Training ensures a thorough understanding of green theory and technologies
with regard to current trends in evolving green advancements. Training and
instruction will be individualized and hands-on. Green studies will be
focused in six main areas: Permaculture and Sustainable Development,
Building and Housing, Energy, Fuel, Food and Farming and Green Business.
Certificates will be awarded for all areas of completion with a diploma
presented as a final award.

I have been in
construction, material sales, design & engineering for over 20 years. I have
a degree in Science/Design and a continuing education in Design Engineering,
as well as, a heavy background in management, research & development in
design engineering.
It seems that lately green building has gone mainstream. Finally, we are all
better understanding that the planet is a complex machine that relies on us
to help keep it running efficiently. Rising fuel prices, abrupt weather, and
climate changes has forced many to consider building a more energy
efficient, practical home.
We can design a traditional home or a complex home for you. Our home plans
are designed for on or off grid use. Homes that are off grid rely on solar
panels (PV system), wind generators, water turbines, passive heating and
cooling technologies including all or limited to whatever is necessary to
power them. Off grid homes utilize extremely efficient appliances and energy
wise homeowners. On grid homes utilize the same equipment but rely on the
local power company to supply some or all of their energy needs. On grid
homes can be just as efficient as off grid homes if built and maintained
properly. They are considered grid tied and even use net metering where
available. Check out the Department of Energy's website for a full
description of these terms.
The belief that passive solar homes are ugly, expensive and work oriented
are far from true. Passive solar homes can be designed in a variety of ways.
Just about any design can be made more solar passive and super insulated.
Our designs incorporate environmentally friendly building materials, passive
solar design, and layouts that represent your needs based on your
geographical location. Our personal design concepts are designed to be "user
friendly," meaning that the floor plans are easily customizable, stackable,
and can be modified or adjusted to work with your homes location. We strive
to make our custom home designs "user friendly," for the "do it
yourselfer's." It's really all about location, location, location. The
design can be ultra - modern, simple, traditional or classic.
We believe that this is the direction the planet is going with home design.
We have owned manufactured homes and they have some benefits to offer, but
they are not what companies claim they are. Modular homes should not be
confused with manufactured homes. Modular homes are custom stick built homes
that in many cases are much better built than most stick homes. Manufactured
homes or "mobile homes" all have metal outrigger frames with wheels. These
types are garbage. The only benefit a mobile or manufactured home has to
offer is it is probably already built and can be set-up quickly. A point we
had to buy for several years ago. I toured the very factory that built it,
which by that time, was too late to reconsider. Furthermore, banks and
finance companies frown at manufactured/mobile housing.
Modular homes are built just like a regular home and are designed and built
by professionals. Not to say that mobile homes are not, but I personally
have owned two and they are flat out garbage. The modular home manufacturers
(i.e.., Geometrics Homes in Lewisburg, TN and Modular One in Pulaski, TN)
that I have toured are way beyond regular home builders. Their homes were
well designed, practical, energy efficient, and extremely well built. The
really neat thing about the modular homes is that within four to six weeks
your home could be completely finished. A fact that I would have appreciated
and paid for years ago. Modular homes are a good investment, mobile or
manufactured homes are not. If you want the most bang for your buck, build
your own home. Our home designs are practical, energy efficient and can be
modified to suit anyone's taste.
WayneDesign is an environmentally sound design studio that focuses mostly on
“do it yourselfer’s,” and people acting as their own contractor/builders. We
are dedicated to protecting and preserving the world around us so making
everything more affordable has been a work in progress,
like:
Utilizing recycled paper for plansets or
Transmitting pdf files for direct printing at your local print shop (no
mail)
Cutting plansets down to a more usable and easier to understand format
Using as much white space as possible in a set of plans
Cutting paper wastes by 50% or more. Making plansets more affordable so
everyone can enjoy the benefits of a custom designed passive solar, energy
efficient home.
Limits of Liability:
WayneDesign is not an engineering or architectural
company and assumes no liability for structural or architectural design
integrity. Sound engineering and design principles have been applied
and every effort made to meet codes and specifications. If an error or
omission occurs it is the sole responsibility of the owner or licensed
contractor to make corrections prior to construction. Dimensions and
conditions to be verified by builder/contractor/owner.
